ECOPER has begun a study to identify good practices in relations between governments and development NGOs. Commissioned by the Spanish network of NGOs, the Coordinadora, the research is being conducted at a time when the new ‘Framework for relations between NGOs and the Government of Spain’ is being adopted. It aims to analyse political, legal and technical aspects of relations between states and NGOs to generate knowledge in order to facilitate the reforms underway in the Spanish international cooperation for development system.
In the course of the research, ECOPER will conduct interviews with representatives of civil society organizations in several EU countries, in addition to desk research of documentary and statistical sources. Once complete, the research will be presented in a report which will highlight cases of good practice among the featured countries and make recommendations for the implementation of the new framework of relations in the Spanish system.
